Oregon athletic director Mike Bellotti is stepping down after less than a year in the position to become a college football analyst with ESPN. Michigan-ND set as Big House night debut (AP)

Michigan has a marquee opponent for the first night game at the Big House: Notre Dame. The game is set for Sept. 10, 2011, and new Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon said he expects an unprecedented atmosphere at Michigan Stadium for the latest chapter in the rivalry between two of college football's most storied programs.

Leach expects to return to coaching (AP)

Mike Leach is far from the world he knew in landlocked Lubbock. Instead of preparing for spring practice at Texas Tech, the former Red Raiders coach is enjoying fishing, exploring and meeting the people in Key West, Fla., where he and his family moved after he was fired in late December. And although he sounds contented with the laid-back lifestyle in the Florida enclave, there is still much...

With a whistle around his neck and a smile on his face, Florida coach Urban Meyer returned to practice Wednesday following a leave of absence that turned out to be shorter than everyone expected. His stay could be longer than anticipated, too. Although Meyer declined to divulge any details about his health, he said his return was permanent.

Tennessee All-American safety Eric Berry cut his pro timing session with NFL scouts short after suffering a minor toe injury. He participated in the NFL Combine in February and is projected to be among the top picks in the April 22...

Ohio State has added two more years to football coach Jim Tressel's contract -- and has offered him an administrative job when he retires. The nine-year coach of the Buckeyes had his original contract, signed in 2006 and amended twice more, extended through the 2014 season on Tuesday. "We wanted to reward Jim for his exemplary work with our football program and lock him in as our coach for...

Appalachian St. QB Edwards holds pro day (AP)

The scouts wanted to see Armanti Edwards do one more thing, so one of college football's most decorated quarterbacks dutifully jogged to midfield and began judging punts in the swirling mountain wind. The wiry and speedy QB who led Appalachian State to a stunning victory at Michigan thinks he can be a signal-caller in the pros, too.
